Ben's Weekly Spark 4.15.19: The Great Unicorn Loves Me & Other Tales

JOY, HOPE, PEACE & LOVE...

Hey friends,

You haven't heard from me in a few weeks because I've been away having some pretty epic life experiences. Thanks for letting me share them with you...

I GOTTA HAVE FAITH

(Photos from Caught In The Moment Photography)

Mid-March I had the honor of performing with the Long Beach Symphony at the Long Beach Arena. I got to sing the hits of George Michael, Billy Joel, U2 and more with a full orchestra.

This particular show reminded me of not only how important singing is to my life, but how capable I am of energetically holding a large container, and also how much fun it is to perform for really big audiences (this was an arena show for 3,000 people.)

Even after having done this gig now many, times, it's always funny to experience how self-doubt and fear can creep into my experience, but I'm finding that the more that I perform these larger-scale gigs, the quicker I am able to step into courage and flow in the moment.

I'LL STOP THE WORLD AND MELT WITH YOU

One of the companies that I love and work for, For the Record Live, opened a really fun and heartfelt live concert experience called "For the Record: The Brat Pack," which is a live performance of the teen films of the '80s (Ferris Bueller, Say Anything, The Breakfast Club) told through their soundtracks.

Through working with For the Record Live, I've been shooting and editing photos, videos and promoting the show, which has allowed me to work with awesome people and improve my skillsets in a lot of areas of production and marketing.

I say this not just because I'm marketing the show, but because I really believe it: if you're in LA, you should come and experience the Brat Pack for yourself. It's beautifully directed and performed, a fun, immersive live experience and it brings back a lot of memories of what it was like to be a teenager, in any era. POSTMODERN JUKEBOX

US TOUR & VEGAS RESIDENCY

On top of all of that, I got to direct two shows for Postmodern Jukebox, including our "Welcome to the 20s, 2.0" tour, and also our Las Vegas residency at The Mirage.

This is where the Great Unicorn comes in...

Written after opening night:

'THE GREAT UNICORN LOVES ME...

....there are moments that show up in my life where the universe reaches out and kisses me on the cheek. These are special moments when all of the variables of reality come together in a highly improbable, magical way to bring me a unique type of joy, designed especially for me and only me. Last night, was a culmination of months of work. A show I co-directed for Postmodern Jukebox went beautifully, with old friends killing it in the cast, and a whole legion of wonderful new friends and collaborators found in the process. Then, on top of that, I got to then go with my friends and witness a dear friend Jordan Kai Burnett emcee Magic Mike Live and (spoiler) ride a unicorn into the sky, empowering women to greatness, while a legion of beautiful men danced below, and I felt that special kiss from the universe. “Ben Caron, this one’s for you.” And I knew: The Great Unicorn loves me.'
